Digital Marketing Questions Answered

Passion Profit CEO recently saw someone asking some digital marketing questions & it became apparent that most people don’t really understand digital marketing.

Therefore today, we are diving into the bigger picture of what digital marketing ACTUALLY is so there is more understanding around the topic & whether digital marketing is the right strategy for you & your business or the industry that you want to go into.

What is Digital Marketing?

Digital marketing is only 1 piece of the bigger business puzzle.

To understand that, one must first understand the actual definitions of the term digital marketing, which many people do not understand due to misleading misconceptions created over the past few years using the term as a titled role within a company, which we will discuss further in a bit.

Digital refers to any electronic device that uses binary code to store, process, and transmit data.

Marketing is a process for communicating, delivering, and exchanging information that creates interest & informs others about your company’s brand, product, or service.

Digital Marketing is defined as any type of marketing performed using digital technology devices to transmit communications for your business including but not limited to social media marketing, email marketing, blogging, and digital billboards, etc.

Therefore to perform digital marketing accurately, you have to have a business and understand what you are actually marketing/selling (COMMUNICATING) when you perform the digital marketing for it to be successful. It requires intentional content creation to be effective with the communications to create the interest needed to inform & convert cultivating a streamlined client/customer pathway experience within the company.

Those who understand the true definition of digital marketing can be successful by using digital marketing strategies for their business.

Who Does Digital Marketing?

This brings us to the first question that has been asked in the questions we received, “Does anyone do digital marketing?”

While this question was asked in a Facebook Group to draw out those who do digital marketing, I’d like to answer this in a different sense with the question of, “Who does digital marketing?”

Any business owner who uses a digital device to promote their business in any way uses digital marketing (no regard to the business industry).

To answer the original question, “does anyone do digital marketing?” YES, everyone selling something online does digital marketing it’s the type of business they have is what differs which brings us to the topic of the role title of digital marketer.

The Role Title of Digital Marketer

As technology has evolved & since 2020 specifically there is more & more interest in digital marketing & people claiming the role of being a Digital Marketer.

Using the definitions above one would understand that a Digital Marketer is anyone who uses digital marketing strategies to grow a business so rightfully, anyone can claim that title no matter the industry they are associated with.

Yet, this is where we run into some major misleading misconceptions on what digital marketing actually is because in the late 1990’s & early 2000′ MRR- Master Resell Rights was invented where people can buy & resell products as if those products are their own.

Since 2020, more people have been interested in working from home than ever before and this created a rise in people who do MRR-type businesses using digital marketing strategies & refer to themselves & the industry as a whole as digital marketers.

Most people who say they are digital marketers with the role title these days, are people building a personal brand on social media as an influencer and are either affiliate marketers (promote someone else’s products for them and receive a commission for each item sold) or they have purchased MRR- Master Resell Rights products to resell as their own (even though they have no experience to teach or answer questions about the products/topics they are selling) — [thus where a lot of scams come in because they can’t provide quality customer service or coaching to go along with digital products being sold]. However, they are using digital marketing to sell the digital products they have as an offer so yes they can refer to themselves as digital marketers.

However, a bit argumentable but your true digital marketers who actually deserve the role title of digital marketer are those marketing agencies who help business owners to utilize digital marketing strategies in their business because they are educated & experienced EXPERTS in the implementation of digital marketing communications.

Yet, all of the above is considered digital marketing & could have the role title of digital marketer because they are promoting something digitally. Therefore, all people who use digital marketing could easily call themselves and have the role title of Digital Marketer.

Something I want to point out though is that when someone uses that title you better do a little more research into them & what they are a digital marketer of & why they claim the role title.

The Digital Marketer role title these days is super misleading because there is equally another role title for those people who say they are digital marketers that would better be a role title for that person which helps others know what they do in a more holistic sense.

For example… a person who works at a marketing agency that helps people learn/implement digital marketing strategies could be better represented as Digital Marketing Coach or Digital Marketing Implementation Specialist. Those who are promoting someone else’s products besides their own using digital marketing could better be titled as Affiliate Marketers successful in digital marketing strategies. And, those who sell MRR could better represent themselves with the title of MRR Product Salesperson successful in digital marketing so it’s not misleading in what they are actually doing & what industry they are in and their role within the company.

Is Digital Marketing Legit?

To answer the question of “Is digital marketing legit?”, we have to read between the lines of what this person asking the question defines digital marketing as.

This is where it’s important to advise that when we ask questions as humans we really do need to ask better questions & communicate clearly.

Being in the industry & knowing what Facebook Group this was posted in, along with the statement of, “I’ve seen so much on TikTok & Instagram, I’ve thought it was a scam” helped me identify the meaning of what they were asking with this question.

What they are actually terming digital marketing as in this question is a MRR Product Salesperson Business and they are asking if the industry in itself is legal & successful so they can make an informed decision of whether or not it’s a business opportunity they want to learn more about & pursue.

The answer to the question is quite simple… YES, digital marketing when you have the accurate definition & it’s performed correctly as actual digital marketing not as the role title is legit & is a good strategy to use even as a MRR Product Salesperson. Digital marketing is completely a legal marketing strategy.

But that’s not what the between-the-lines interpretation is asking. They asked,  is the MRR Product Salesperson business industry legit? Yet, the answer, in short, is the same… YES!

However, this is where things get tricky & a more elaborate opinion is needed to answer whether or not digital marketing MRR businesses are a scam.

Digital marketing seems like a scam…

Just because MRR Product Salesperson Businesses are legit & legal it doesn’t mean that all people who conduct that type of business are ethical & have good morals thus the industry can seem non-legit or a scam because there are scam artists who are good at digital marketing yet aren’t good on the offer delivery side of business taking people’s money & not being able to support people after the purchase is made.

Therefore, those in the MRR business industry need to have some skills coaching experience around the MRR products they choose to promote & sell.  Thus the reason the whole thing can appear to be a scam. And also because a lot of the MRR Product Salespersons are really good at creating hype & lying about income earnings (simply because it’s what they have been trained to do through bad marketing coaches) you can’t help but get the vibe that the industry in a whole is a bit scammy.

Therefore, it’s important as the consumer that we all have some discernment to be careful about what & more specifically WHO we are investing in through digital marketing sales tactics & do our own diligent research on the company & business owner before investing.

Can You Make $10K Months As A Digital Marketer?

Answering the question of, “do you make $10K as a digital marketer?” is again a little bit tricky because we have to understand what they are asking.

One can assume they are asking one of two questions. The first being, “Those of you who do digital marketing, do you make $10K months?” OR the second question being, “Is it possible to make $10K months as a digital marketer — (again defining digital marketer as MRR- Master Resale Rights Product Salesperson).

The answer though is the same to both… Yes & No.

Some people make $10K months using digital marketing strategies & it is possible to make $10K months as a MRR Product Sales Person but equally so the answer is, “NO” for some because it takes experience, commitment, & effort in which some people don’t have.

Businesses take time to build.

That is the solid FACT through & through no matter what industry you choose.

So the real question here is not the question that is being asked. The real question this person wants to get an answer to is, “Is it possible that I could make $10K months as a digital marketer?”

And my response to anyone who is subconsciously asking that question is to ask a series of coaching questions.

Coaching Questions To Ask:

  1. Are YOU going to be committed to putting in the effort to build an actual business knowing that most businesses fail in the first 5 years & that they require an investment of both time & money?
  2. Are YOU going to do the holistic planning for that business so that it can be successful through digital marketing strategies or are you just going to try & wing it & hope it works for you?
  3. Are YOU going to be self-disciplined or hire the support needed to do the required marketing & sales work that allows your business to reach those $10K months month after month using the digital marketing strategies that are efficient for your business to thrive with those conversion numbers in combination with the other strategies to form high conversion systems & operations within your business?
  4. Are YOU going to be okay knowing that business has fluctuations in numbers & sometimes isn’t always as consistent as a 9-5 paycheck so it can be risky, especially in the first few years of growth?

This is where some self-awareness & truths need to come out of YOU & not what is possible for others.

Where there is a will, there is a way…

but you have to know your own learning & toleration levels so you can set realistic goals for yourself & your business that uses digital marketing & discern well on whether or not the opportunity & strategies are actually for you & your business or not.

Is Digital Marketing Hard To Start?

Once more, to answer this question of, “Is digital marketing hard to start?” we have to realize they are meaning an MRR- Master Resale Rights Salesperson Business.

Starting a business of any type isn’t hard, you literally make the decision & start the business.

Anyone can start a business & even legalize an LLC or do sole proprietorship with a DBA, it’s running & managing the business efficiently over time & achieving the profit numbers needed that can be challenging.

Again, the answer to that has to come within yourself by answering the following coaching questions to pull the answer out of you on whether it will be hard for you or not to start & be successful at the business you desire.

Coaching Questions To Ask:

  1. How much do you know & have experience with digital marketing & an MRR business or any business at all?
  2. How fast do you learn?
  3. How much time do you have to commit to planning & growing, scaling your business?
  4. What is your goal for business to be successful along with what you define success as (obviously this person is defining it as $10K months— which is only achieved by 12% of female-owned businesses so that has to be taken into consideration).
  5. Do you have a good mentor or coach that you can rely on to teach you ALL the parts you don’t know so that you can implement quickly & have rapid success or are you willing to go out there and find all the mentors & coaches you need in all the individual areas needed to have a successful business journey?
  6. Do you believe you can own & operate a successful business & have what it takes (willpower) in you to become a successful business owner?

All this determines whether or not it’s going to be hard for you.

The true reality is building a business is far from easy but it’s worth it for those who want to put the effort & consistent personal growth in that is required to make it great.

When Should You Use Digital Marketing As A Business Strategy?

As noted, all business industries can use digital marketing but is it right for your business?

To know, you have to do holistic business planning that includes some marketing research, understanding what results goals you have in your business, & for what reason you will be using digital marketing when it comes to implementing your sales conversion system that includes your client/customer pathway.

As business owners we all use digital marketing in different ways & some business owners don’t use it at all. Knowing the intention behind why we are using it is the key to creating strategic content that communicates the right message & at the right time to cultivate a specific result within your business. If you don’t know the intention of why you are going to be using a digital marketing strategy, then it’s kinda pointless to try to implement it. Without a cohesive strategic digital marketing plan, it’s literally like throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what happens without knowing if it’s actually going to be effective for growing your business. When you understand why you are going to use digital marketing to grow your business & in what area of your business then you can strategically use digital marketing strategies to efficiently grow your business in specific areas.

CONCLUSION

Digital marketing & digital marketer now have two different meanings and you must understand how it’s being defined when someone uses the terms. It first & foremost means marketing that is conducted by digital technology. Secondly, it means people who have an MRR- Master Resale Rights type of business not just those who are experts in implementing digital marketing strategies into other business owners’ businesses.

Should you use digital marketing? To answer that question, you simply have to assess what is best for your business & that is the KEY TO BUSINESS SUCCESS… ALIGNMENT!  You must understand that digital marketing is only a small piece of a bigger business puzzle no matter what industry & role title you have. So is it best for your business? That depends, what are the goals of your business & what is the intention behind WHY you are wanting to use digital marketing? You have to answer those questions & holistically look at your business overall to know if it’s the most efficient strategy to use in a certain situation.

The role title is not just digital marketer, unless, you are hired into a company to ONLY provide the service implementation of digital marketing communication strategies. There is always more to that title where you have to ask, “digital marketer of what?” if they are a business owner because anyone can do digital marketing. You have to further assess & ask, “what are they actually selling using digital marketing strategies?” because there is usually a better role title that could be used to create more clarity for the type of business they have.
