What Is A Presale?

Learning to navigate the world of sales and wondering what a presale is?

In this post, you’ll learn all about two types of presales.

What is a Presale?

The word presale can have several different meanings when it comes to business.

First and foremost, it refers to the phase of business before a customer is acquired meaning before the sale happens.

Second, it is also the third part of a full marketing campaign and means selling your offer before it is available to the public.

Presale Phase of Business

In this phase of business, you have research, qualification, prospecting, lead generation, and analytics.

Once you have planned your target audience and legalized your business you then enter the first stage of business… the presale.

During this phase, you begin audience growth and market research to learn more about the needs of your target audience.

In doing so you begin lead generation and prospecting to find leads who have an interest in the overall topic of what your business is about a.k.a. your list.

This then gives you the ability to look at some analytics and figure out your best sales moves therefore being the phase of business before sales begin to make any finishing touches to your offer before selling.

Presales In Your Marketing Campaign

While this is still a part of what was discussed in the phase of business, we should dive a little deeper in the order of operations and what this looks like.

When doing an actual marketing campaign a presale is still the moment and phase of business before the sale but in this sense it can also include some sales.

Let’s look at the order of operations for a marketing campaign:

  1. Advertisements to acquire leads
  2. Nurturing and prospecting to leads
  3. Presale
  4. Sale
  5. Aftersale

In this order of operations technically steps 1-3 are the presale phase. Yet the word presale can also only mean step 3.

In step 3, this is where leads have already been acquired, an event or some type of value content has been given, and prospecting has begun by creating relationships and the sales process is started by trying to generate a few sales before the actual sales (with an open and closed date) are open to the public.

So think VIP’s only for those highly qualified prospects and this could also include an extra special early bird special (something that makes the offer more enticing for a certain period of time before sales end).

Having this type of presale helps business owners (especially coaches who are doing a group program) the ability to fill spaces in their offer thus releasing some anxiety when they start the sales process because they are well on their way to achieving sales goals.

Conclusion

While presale always means before the sale there are times when it also can include sales when it comes to speaking about a marketing campaign.
